What is Druzy Stone, Anyway?

What is Druzy Stone, Anyway?

It's beautiful. It sparkles. And this dazzling stone can be turned into one gorgeous pendant when designing jewelry. What is it? Druzy!

If you haven't noticed, I design a lot of pieces with druzy stone and often will be asked what exactly that means.

So here's the answer.

Druzy is essentially the glittering effect of crystals over the top of a mineral. They take millions of years to grow and are most commonly found as the very last layer of growth. While many people assume druzy is a type of quartz, druzy can be any kind of mineral found in a plate-like form, including garnets, calcite, dolomite and malachite. These sparkling stones come in a variety of colors, with the most common being white, yellow, brown and orange.

Because the stones are easy to dye, that's why you're able to find them in just about any hue imaginable. And even though the stones appear to have a soft-velvety appearance, they're actually quite durable which makes these sparkling stones perfect to use as pendants when designing jewelry.

Druzy stone can be found around the world, however, it's mostly mined in Mexico, Africa, South Africa, Europe and Brazil.

As if you needed another reason to get behind the druzy stone trend, they're also said to have a wide range of healing powers

Experts say they're excellent stones to use for spiritual workshops and group meditations. However, I doubt you're going to take your necklace or earrings off and pass them around, so here's some personal benefits from flaunting that cute piece of druzy jewelry you own:

Druzy is said to boost your imagination & creativity.

At the same time, it's also known to induce relaxation while helping with emotional distress.

Gem experts also claim this particular stone will "amplify your body’s natural healing properties while strengthening your spirit."

This stone is also believed to help provide balance in your life to avoid depression or unnatural feelings of sadness, abandonment, or fear.

This is pretty fascinating stuff, right? Not only is this stone beautiful, but it has some pretty amazing powers associated with it, which in my book is certainly a win-win.

One of my favorite parts of the business is to work with taking people’s creative accessory ideas and turning them into a reality. And this project was no exception. I was given two pearl necklaces, in varying sizes and slightly different colors and then turned them into 4 separate necklaces. Read more about the process and the before and after photos!
